That's over a month after the album's initial release

After being held off the service for a little more than a month, Radiohead's new album A Moon Shaped Pool is about to land on Spotify. The band's ninth LP was originally released on its website, other digital stores, and paid streaming services like Apple Music and Tidal on May 8th, so Spotify users are being given access a little more than a month after its initial availability. Its Spotify release is coinciding with the release of the album's physical edition.

It's one of many recent album kept off Spotify

A Moon Shaped Pool is one of several recent albums that have enjoyed a "windowed" release, meaning they've been made available on other streaming services before Spotify. Albums like Drake's Views and Chance the Rapper's Coloring Book mixtape enjoyed a window of Apple Music exclusivity before their wide release. Kanye West's The Life of Pablo and Rihanna's ANTI lived exclusively on Tidal before being released everywhere. (Beyoncé's Lemonade remains a Tidal exclusive; Adele's blockbuster 25 can't be streamed anywhere.)

You can chalk some of the delays up to artists' frustration with the continued existence of Spotify's free tier, which is supported by ads but pays out much less than the service's paid level; others are tied to larger sponsorship and exclusivity deals, like Drake and Taylor Swift's agreements with Apple. If you're a Radiohead fan, you're probably just glad the wait is over, and you'll see the message below when you next check their Spotify page.
