Eddie Redmayne has just signed on to star in the upcoming adaptation of The Last Days Of Night. The film with the same name is about the epic clash between industry titan George Westinghouse and inventor Thomas Edison over one question: who invented the lightbulb?

It's set to be released sometime in late 2017, according to Deadline and will be directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game, Passengers). It’s based on a historical thriller by Graham Moore, who authored the screenplay for The Imitation Game and the bestselling novel The Sherlockian, that’s set to be released on August 16th from Random House. Moore will be writing the screenplay for his novel.

Westinghouse and Edison famously clashed in a series of escalating lawsuits over their inventions and patents during the late 1800s. The war took place between Edison's Electric Light Company and the Westinghouse Electrical Company at the dawn of the electrical age and helped settle the future of the technology.

Redmayne, who recently starred in The Theory of Everything and this year’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, will play Paul Cravath, a young lawyer from Columbia Law School who is representing Westinghouse in 1888. The case thrusts the young man into the upper echelons of American high society, as he’s tasked with bringing a case against inventor Thomas Edison. Notable historical figures such as Nikola Tesla and Alexander Graham Bell make their own appearances throughout the story.
