After teasing an announcement yesterday, both Marvel and Square Enix have announced a new project: a joint venture for a new game based on the Avengers. The game is being developed by Square Enix studios Crystal Dynamics (Rise of the Tomb Raider) and Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex: Mankind Divided).

The initial teaser doesn’t showcase much of what the actual game will be like, but shows off a dark future that presumably will be put right once the Avengers reassemble. No platforms or release date have been announced yet. Here’s Square Enix’s brief description of the project:

The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018.

It’s also not just a one off project. Square and Marvel are joining forces for what’s described as “a multi-year, multi-game partnership.”

Outside of the Square Enix partnership, Marvel is also working with Ratchet & Clank studio Insomniac on a new Spider-Man title, and adventure game studio Telltale on a series based on Guardians of the Galaxy.
