Following in Ikea and Target’s footsteps

Amazon has added an AR component to its app, using Apple’s ARKit to let customers place various items in their house virtually before buying them. Called AR View, customers can select thousands of items like home decor, electronics, home office products, toys, and games, and place them in their home. Using the tool, customers can overlay, move, and rotate the item in a live camera view mode to see how the item will fit and look in real time.

To launch the feature, open the Amazon app on your device, tap on the camera icon in the search bar, then tap AR View and select a product. You use one finger to move the item and two to rotate. The feature is available on iPhone 6S devices and higher running iOS 11.

It’s not the first furniture-placing tool that’s launched recently: Ikea released one in September that also uses Apple’s ARKit, while Target launched its own AR feature through its mobile site, though that application is a bit of a disaster.
