We've spent quite a bit of time with the Atrix 2 over the past few months, including our preview of the device this past September. This time around, we still find the Atrix 2 to be a handsome phone despite that fact that it doesn't have the screen size or the thinness Samsung's II lineup. Everything feels solid, well-rounded, and almost comforting — which is another way of saying the Atrix 2 definitely doesn't feel like it's from the future. Specs are in line with that assessment: a dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP4 processor, 4.3-inch qHD screen, and an 8-megapixel rear camera all add up to a capable but not especially incredible package.
AT&T and Motorola are making an interesting play with the Atrix 2: on the one hand they've packed it with business-friendly features and on the other they've priced it at a very consumer-friendly $99 with a two-year contract. Both strategies begin to make more sense when you realize that the iPhone 4 is available on AT&T for the same price. Whether Atrix 2 will actually be able to compete with last year's iPhone 4 is another matter, but as of right now we think it deserves a shot in that (somewhat humbling) competition.
Capable, reasonable, comforting, and business-friendly: that's the Atrix 2 in a nutshell from where we are sitting. If you're interested in cracking that sort of thing open, you'll have your opportunity on October 13th when the phone is officially released.
