Google Places' break-up with Yelp earlier this year dealt a blow to the recommendation service, but Google has kept pushing it forward (it recently acquired Zagat). Today it took another step by updating Google Maps for Android to add nearby live event listings to Place pages in New York, San Francisco, Paris, Zurich, and London, making it easier for residents and tourists alike to find something to do on a Friday night. On a (somewhat) related note, the update also removes the "Post to Twitter" option from reviews in Places — future Google+ integration, anyone?
