A USB DAC/amp is one of the best ways to get great performance out of your music, and Oppo’s HA–2 is considered to be one of the best portable headphone amplifiers and DACs on the market. Of course, there’s always room for improvement, so Oppo is releasing an updated successor to the HA–2, the HA–2SE.

The HA–2SE keeps a lot of the things that made the original HA–2 great, including the same leather and machined aluminum design. Oppo has included ESS Technology’s newest top-of-the-line digital-to-analog converter chip in the HA–2SE, along with improvements to the amplifier to allow for a lower floor and a better signal-to-noise ratio when compared to the original HA–2.

The HA–2SE can serve as a very expensive Lightning to 3.5mm headphone adapter for iPhone 7 users

The HA–2SE can connect to smartphones through USB inputs, and output through a standard 3.5-mm headphone jack. It also includes an integrated 3000mAh battery pack that can charge the phone while the DAC is in use. These features combine to essentially allow the HA–2SE to serve as a very expensive Lightning to 3.5mm headphone adapter for iPhone 7 users that allows them to use both older headphones and charge their devices at the same time (while also delivering great audio quality).

The HA–2SE costs $299 and is available from Oppo’s web site starting today.
