And a tiny fingerprint sensor

Kensington is an accessory maker best known for its nearly ubiquitous laptop locking system. But it also makes other computer accessories, and just announced a new USB-C Thunderbolt 3 dock at CES 2017.

The SD5000T Thunderbolt 3 Dock is yet another attempt to solve the USB-C port problem. It offers two USB 3.0 ports, DiplayPort, 3.5mm audio, gigabit Ethernet, a USB-C port for data and charging of an external device, a Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port for connecting to a laptop, and a second Thunderbolt 3 port for plugging in whatever you'd like. The SD5000T Thunderbolt 3 Dock is powered, and can supply up to 85W of power to a connected laptop, making it one of the few docks we've seen that can charge larger computers like Apple's newest 15-inch MacBook Pro. The downside is pricing: while the dock doesn't have a fixed price or release date outside of a Q1 2017 window, Kensington representatives told The Verge that it was exploring a $349–$379 price point, which would make it one of the more expensive USB-C docks we've seen.

On the security side of things, Kensington also announced a new laptop locking system — the Laptop Locking Station 2.0 — which lets you use Kensington computer locks with newer, thinner laptops that no longer include the locking port. And should you prefer your digital safety more biometricly flavored, Kensington is also releasing the minuscule VeriMark Fingerprint Key, a tiny USB fingerprint sensor that supports the FIDO standard that I will almost certainly lose within minutes of use.
