Captain America: The Winter Soldier won't be hitting theaters until April, but Marvel is already putting the third entry in the series together. Variety reports that Joe and Anthony Russo, the pair that directed Winter Soldier along with many episodes of Arrested Development and Community, are already working with the studio on the outline for a third film. A second sequel hasn't actually been greenlit just yet — Soldier's financial success will be the main consideration there — but given the continued performance of Marvel's films there's little reason to think it won't come to pass.

The first Captain America was directed by Joe Johnson, but when the Russos stepped in they said they wanted to give the film more of a gritty, 1970s vibe, in line with spy thrillers like Three Days of the Condor. While we don't know if they've succeeded just yet, the early footage we saw at Comic-Con and D23 seemed to indicate they were on the right track — and if Marvel is already talking sequel, the company must be feeling rather bullish as well.
