Nintendo 3DS on track to outpace the DS in first-year sales
Maybe the August price cut helped, or maybe it just took people a while to discover the charms of playing Imagine Fashion Designer in three dimensions. Either way, Nintendo is reporting that it has sold 1.65 million 3DS units in the U.S. so far, putting it on track to beat the first year sales of its predecessor, the DS. As you're no doubt aware, the latter went on to become "the best-selling game system in U.S. history," as Joystiq notes. Then again, the DS was also a poor performer at first, so we'll have to see what impact the holidays have on the sale of the device.
