'Soul Calibur' out now on iOS for $11.99, no multiplayer
We heard it was coming, and Namco's classic sword-clattering Dreamcast fighter Soul Calibur has indeed battled its way onto iOS. It's a universal app for iPad and iPhone currently selling for $11.99, a 20-percent launch discount on its soon-to-be regular $14.99 price. Inevitable control worries aside, the port looks to be pretty well-done, capturing the visual pyrotechnics that made the game such a jawdropper upon the Dreamcast's release. As such, the game will only run on the iPad 2, iPhone 4 and 4S, and fourth-generation iPod touch. One major head-scratcher is the inexplicable lack of any multiplayer support whatsoever, though Namco does say that additional modes are in the works. We have to say we're a little taken aback by the pricing — button-powered alternatives with multiplayer include Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny for PSP, the ten-dollar Xbox Live Arcade version, or picking up a Dreamcast copy for 100 yen in any game store in Japan.
