The 3rd generation iPod was thinner and lighter than it's previous generation thanks to the removal of the FireWire port which was replaced with a iPod Dock Connector. Four touch-sensitive, backlit action buttons were moved above the touch wheel. The 40GB version was slightly heavier and thicker at 6.2 ounces and 0.73" compared to 5.6 ounces 0.62" for the 20GB versions.
