The Sega Dreamcast is the successor to Sega's previous home console, the Saturn. It features a built-in 56k modem (exclusive to the US and, later on, Japanese models), and an optional VGA adapter for 480p playback on high definition televisions. Production was discontinued in 2001.

The Sony PlayStation 2 is the sequel to their original PlayStation console. It is the best-selling console in history. It features CD and DVD playback, an internal 3.5-inch hard drive slot, and an optional Ethernet adapter. A revision of the PlayStation 2 was released later under the name PlayStation 2 Slimline.
