XEGS

By Atari
X

By 1987 Atari had just about finished it's run with 8-bit computers, having repackaged and resold their aging Atari 400, 2600, and 7800's as 5200 and 2600jr's, respectively. Having no luck selling these machines as actual computers, Atari disguised its 65XE as a video game console, hoping to sell them in mass-market locations like K-Mart and J.C.Penney, who at the time had ceased selling computers. Overall, the console was not a success. Many merchants did not know what to do with the machines and many sat on shelves unsold.
