Philips released the first CD-interactive player to the market in 1991. Short for "Compact Disc Interactive", content was initially largely relegated to educational and self help videos before Philips shifted focus to the increasingly lucrative videogame segment. The 600 series players were designed for professional applications and software development. The 600 series even included ports for Floppy drives and keyboards and allowed for software to be debugged and generally tested. Description |
