The "slim" PlayStation 3 was introduced at E3 2010 alongside a refresh of the PlayStation brand that resulted in Sony shedding the oft-maligned Spiderman font. The updated hardware takes on a notably smaller form factor and trades the glossy finish of previous PS3 models for a matte appearance. With this console, Sony removed the ability to install another operating system, a decision that would also impact other revisions via software updates.
