Samsung Focus Flash

Verge Review

Whereas Nokia's Lumia 800 is standing tall as the flagship Windows Phone 7.5 device to lead out 2011 for Europe, the selection of new Mango devices is decidedly more competitive in the US. Samsung is taking a very strong two-tier approach with its Focus S and Focus Flash for AT&T. The former is being promoted as a 4.3-inch premier device for $199.99 on contract, while the latter Flash is priced at an entry-level $49.99 with a smaller frame and 3.7-inch screen. But are looks and price points...

For the price, you simply can't beat this phone. I tend to prefer smaller form-factor phones, so the Focus Flash really does something for me. I can't get used to the gigantic 4.3+ inch screens on most smart phones these days - overkill, unnecessary, and just hard to hold and use on a daily basis. The Focus Flash just feels great in your hand and pocket.

With Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, the software is finally in its own. I feel as if the Marketplace has the apps you need, if not all the hyped-up numbers of the other ecosystems. The Marketplace works well and is able to actually find the apps you want with a simple search (something the Android store was never able to do for me). The podcast integration is top-tier, and considering I use podcasts every day, this is a huge plus for me. So far I have not had the issues with call quality and my callers not being able to hear me like I did with my previous smartphones. I've owned an iPhone, an Inspire 4G, and a Blackberry Torch 9810. So far, this phone beats them all in daily usability and joy-factor.

Everything works very smoothly and this is a phone I just can't recommend enough. Go get one. At $50 it's a steal. At $0.01, it ought to be illegal.

I currently own the European version of this called Samsung Omnia W and i'm really loving it. Windows Phone just runs sooo smooth compared to my old Android phone (Desire HD) witch had specs much like this one. The only drawback is the camera that simply just sucks. I never use the camera of my phone but I see why some could see this as a deal breaker.
