Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

Verge Review

Samsung is changing its approach to tablets. Rather than compete at the highest end with the iPad or the Transformer Prime, Samsung's aiming for a happy medium: all the features we've come to expect from an Android tablet, without necessarily top-notch performance or specs, for an appealing price. The tactic worked really well with the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, a $249.99 7-inch tablet that outpaces the Kindle Fire, Nook Tablet, or BlackBerry PlayBook. The bigger brother in the Tab 2 line is now...

I bought this for my 9yr old and I find myself using it more. I figured I did not want to spend too much since technology changes so rapidly and it will probably be obsolete in 2 years. I have the Samsung galaxy S3 phone and I thought the chargers would be the same but they are not. So far, the speed in accessing the web is excellent, even faster than my phone with the same 4.0 Android OS. The 10.1 inch screen does not leave many choices as many have gone to the 7 inch but this is so much better on the eyes especially for reading books. I was a little disappointed it did not come with all the apps like my phone but I was able to load all the usual google apps and the amazon apps. YouTube and Netflix is awesome and the screen resolution is outstanding. I find myself using it because its much faster than my laptop haha. So many free games and books apps, wifi, bluetooth, DLNA, and best of all Tethering to use internet from my phone on long drives costing me $0 and no contract with a cell phone carrier for this Tablet. I think Verge did not give enough kudos to this Tablet with a low score.

Two negatives: The front/rear cameras are terrible but it was not that important for us. The big thing was after loading Yahoo messenger and Skype like I did on my phone, it said I needed to load the plug-in for video but Google play's 1.6 & 1.8 version of yahoo messenger video plug-in would not load and said my device would not support it. Not being a tech savy, I spent a day and a half and found the info I needed online from the tech forums and was able to load the 1.5 version plug-in and wa-la we have webcam for my child to communicate with her dad on deployment overseas. Amazing even though the picture quality of the cam is awful and shows one cam sideways but hey its better than nothing. Other than that, no complaints. I bought this one because Wal-mart has very cheap 2yr warranty for breakage and spills of course it is necessary since it was for my child.
