Ten years on, I have a sudden urge to revisit my 17" 1GHz iMac G4 which after 5 years as my son's primary computer I have managed to reclaim it after gifting him an iPad for his birthday.
Running Mac Os X Tiger with 1.2 GB RAM (It can actually support 2GB) it feels reasonably snappy for light tasks and useable with the now free Adobe CS2 Creative suite (google for cs2 downloads).
I can listen to music in iTunes, surf lightly although some flash sights no longer work correctly.
I have decided to use the Mac for some creative work and studying using devonthink, Macjournal, Office vX and some other software I still own older versions of.
The screen which appears to float in front of the user, provides viewing angles which are still one of the best on a desktop computer I have ever used and brought a smile to my face as I reminisced over the happy times I spent glued to the screen. The sound system from the Harmon Kardon speakers and built in amplifier reminded me of the evenings and parties where the iMac and iTunes provided the entertainment.
Its still a great machine I cant part with and the design still looks so modern and fresh, I cant help but wonder if the iphone and iPad had'nt been such a runaway success what kind of breath taking iMacs Apple would have been producing now?
