Apple iOS 6

Verge Review

A review of iOS 6 is not a review of revolution, but of refinement. iOS has been the gold standard for smartphones and tablets since the day it was first introduced, and Apple's resisted the urge to make any radical changes, instead slowly polishing it with each successive version. That means iOS 6 is recognizably the same basic operating system that shipped on the original iPhone in 2007, while its biggest competitor, Android, looks completely different from what Google started with in 2008. ...

    To be brief...

-iOS need a major revamp. They can't just have the simple 4x4 or 5x4 grid. It needs to be different in some way. They have have the same icons for app for the last 5 years. Even someone who doesn't pay attention to tech knows that it is getting stale.

-Maps, Siri improvements, and Panorama mode in the camera are some of the bigger, new, and exciting features. Maps has been buggy for many. Things in the middle of the ocean, destroyed cities, and some odd directions from Siri. But Siri will now give you turn by turn directions which is very handy, although it should have happened earlier. Also, there is a lack of transit. No bus schedules from your location unless you get a third party app. Siri also gives you sports scores, movie times, and can reserve dinner for you.

-Performance is pretty fast as usual, but still has some slow moments.

-If you own a Mac, iPad, and iPhone you probably have a pretty good life. With Photo Stream, and Mountain Lion having notifications when you get a text, it all comes together quite nicely.

Overall: I give iOS 6 an eight because it has some nice new bells and whistles, but they take a step back in maps with no transit times, and iOS is getting VERY old.

Some features are a bit outdated such as changing a default app, or live weather. However, I still find it a complete joy to use and have been since the original beta. I find it to be much more elegant than Android, and much easier to use than Windows Phone.
