Apple iPhone 5S

Verge Review

Apple has entered the spec wars. The iPhone 5S isn’t just supposed to be “the most amazing iPhone yet.” It’s not “the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever.” No, Apple says the 5S is “the most forward-thinking iPhone yet” and “the best smartphone in the world.” But the screen didn't get bigger, and the design hasn’t changed. Apple’s mid-cycle S updates are always about the little things: faster internals, a better camera, more memory. But this year little things...

Beautiful design, breakneck performance, endless innovation, beautiful software. Thos are the four things that strike me whenever I pick up my iPhone 5s. It is largely just an improvement on last year's iPhone 5, as is the trend now with Apple and their new products. So let's start with what's new:

Touch ID is probably the most talked about of the new feature, allowing you access to the phone only if you have registered your fingerprint to the phone. This is a really cool feature and is NOT a gimmick - it works every time for me.
64-bit architecture is something that you find in computers, and is one of the three things Apple is keen to boast about. Their new A7 chip is coupled with an M7 motion coprocessor, to deliver outstanding speed and benchmark scores. This enables the iPhone 5s to be faster than the majority of other smartphones currently on the market.
Apple has also improved the camera for the 5s, but it still remains at 8 megapixels. They have, however, changed the aperture, to f2.2 from f2.4, added burst mode and Slo-Mo video recording (a really cool feature which allows video to be shot at 120fps) which is one of my favourite only-5s features. There is also the new dual flash, which matches the colours in the flashes with the colours on the faces of people. Stills are fantastic, too, and are still extremely crisp even when zoomed in on on an iPad.
The majority of what remains about the iPhone 5s is slightly improved (or the same) as on the 5s's predecessor, including the design, screen size and resolution, and so on - just as we've seen with previous 's' updates from Apple.

Some of my only quibbles about the new iPhone 5s, are the battery life and the software - iOS 7. The battery life on my iPhone unit, has been less than amazing, as on a good day, I have only been getting 6.5 hours - way short of the 10 that Apple promises. This may just be my unit, but it is the only major chink in the iPhone's armour for me. iOS 7 is the best version of iOS yet, with the stunning redesign being one of the highlights - it looks just amazing on the beautiful 4 inch Retina display. The only problems for me, are the existing ones in Apple's Maps app, and the lack of customisability. Overall, the iPhone 5s is a fantastic phone, restoring Apple to it's former glory and former levels of innovation. There are only a few areas in which it stumbles, but it excels in almost every other aspect. I would wholly recommend this phone to the majority of people, but for those who want long battery life, I suggest to look no further than the 5s's sibling, the 5c.

The most remarkable thing Apple did with the iPhone 5S was to change everything while appearing to change almost nothing. The processor’s faster, the camera’s brighter, and the software’s a little smarter. But rather than club you to death with features to prove just how many things this phone can do, the iPhone 5S simply does everything it did before, better. Even the new things feel integrated, and obvious — Touch ID has quickly come to feel completely natural, and slow-motion video now feels notably absent from the iPhone 5. There aren’t two dozen different multitasking systems or countless camera modes; the 5S is just more capable and more intuitive than ever before. It’s easily the best iPhone ever made, and maybe the best smartphone ever made.

The iPhone 5S is hands-down the best iPhone, and definitely one of the best phones you can go and buy with full confidence.
    Key selling features:
    Beautiful design,
    Great display,
Two great cameras, although the main rear facing camera is still 8MP,
Outrageously fast, from opening apps to gaming to web browsing, it offers the "no-lag" experience that you'd expect a high caliber phone to deliver
iOS 7- although some don't like the change, most of them have happily welcomed it to their device and found it refreshingly beautiful and simple.
Touch ID- the finger-print sensor works better thank you think it does.

    Key areas to improve-
Camera must get a megapixel bump now.
the display should get bigger now and so should the resolution
the speakers are good but definitely can get better.

Honestly, its very difficult to criticize the phone, the phone is so well made, it make you forget what it can't do but make you focus on the things its rather does better than any other phone.

The app availability and quality, and the beautiful construction are second to none. However, much could be improved. Screen size could be better and screen resolution could have greater pixel density. iOS 7 lags Android in many areas, as well. Multitasking needs to be more fluid. Posting and sending, via better API´s, would help in 3rd party apps, as well.
