As the fist generation of the venerable iPod nano product, Apple surprisingly managed to get most of it right. Among the few deficiencies in this product are its lack of any hardware volume controls and notorious screen. The largest single detractor of the nano, the screen took away from the dream of a “color iPod mini,” what with its terrible viewing angles and tendency to scratch to such an extent that text onscreen became almost unreadable. This grew so bad in fact, that Apple began bundling “nano-tubes,” sock-like pouches, with new purchases. Although this detracts from the product, Apple in the original iPod nano nailed the device’s size, shape, and overall form factor, creating something which satisfied both form and function.
