The MX 5500 and revolution kit are the first keyboard/mouse devices that I owned that I can remember.
I bought the kit about 5 or 6 years ago, and I still use the keyboard.

for the first 2 / 3 years everything run very smooth, mouse was amazing, keyboard worked like a charm, after that things were taking a turn for the worse. The battery of the mouse was dying, permanently. Luckily you get a 5 year insurance with this kit from logitech, so I mailed them, send a picture of a the dead MX Revolution and the sent met the new Performance within 3 days, so good work there! You won me over.

after typing a lot on the keyboard (chatting/coding/emails) and not being the cleanest while at the keyboard (eating, drinking, smoking basically living near the thing), the keys where starting to get a little hard to push after owning it for 4 years, which is still very good. There are some functions on the keyboard i cannot miss, for starters with the display, it shows time, now playing media, temperature, shortcut menu (adjustable and controllable with combination of a F and FN keys), key counter and number of new emails (with a typo in it in the dutch version). Also, numlock key has been replaced by a calculator key, which uses the mini display. I use the calculator a fairly amount of the time (for calculating in design on how many pixels width for example), and I basically use this thing as a clock, because you can use the display even when the computer is turned off! And it is wireless. Above that the battery stays alive (even after 6 years of use) for a month or 2. It uses 4 non-rechargable AA batteries, but you can buy rechargables if you want.

For the mouse, since the keyboard is only available with that mouse, you have to take it. It is not a bad mouse, for the release time it was one of the best in my opinion, but it has it's lacks. Battery turned dead for real in 3 years time, recharging is in a dock, so you can't use the mouse while recharging, and the side scroll doesn't really scroll, it's more of a 2 way joystick for tabs view in windows (does show nicely though) If you like this mouse, try the newer MX performance, which has non of the lacks i mentioned above + more features.

Overall, it's not a bad kit, the mouse has it's lacks in it, some extra functions on the keyboard are unnecessary (keycounter...) but it works. And, there is no successor for the keyboard at the time of writing. This is the only wireless keyboard with display.
