No, it's not going to be the best phone you can buy on the market. No it isn't even the best prepaid phone you can buy. However, due to some lockdowns on the Motorola Triumph this is still the best phone available on Virgin Mobile.

The Optimus V includes nearly stock froyo (with some additional apps that are included on all virgin mobile android phones) that may or may not be upgraded to Gingerbread in the near future. However, due to the tethering capabilities of this device (which have been lacking on the much more powerful Triumph) the rooting community (namely xda-developers) has kept this phone up to date, CM7 based Gingerbread roms, and an upcoming ICS ROM are available for this phone, while some other high-end devices are left in the cold.

This review score was decided for current Virgin Mobile customers, if you aren't a current customer with the $25 plan, I would recommend you look at T-Mobile's offerings in prepaid. Currently there is a special for $30 a month for the same offering of Virgin Mobile, but only 100 minutes. However, you can use whatever GSM phone you wish, and the first 5GB are "4G speeds" meaning you'll get access to their HSPA+ network which can in many areas be comparable to 4G other than ping time

It's a solid mid-range phone for android newcomers, and people frustrated with a contract, with a very reliable connection to Sprint's nationwide network (if you do not have Sprint coverage in your area, do not buy this phone, roaming does not work for Virgin Mobile).
