Logitech UE Boom

Verge Review

The 487,000th time I caught myself cupping my hand underneath my phone’s speaker so my friends could hear a YouTube video, I finally came to grips with the idea that the speakers on my phone, my tablet, and my laptop are an affront to the music I listen to every day. So I set out to buy a Bluetooth speaker, one that would connect to any device in any place and make for beautiful music whether I’m at home, on the beach, or stuck in the office trying to show someone the latest OK Go insanity. ...

I tried a bunch of Bluetooth speakers including Bose, Dr Dre and Sony before deciding I just had to have a UE Boom. It had the least troublesome Bluetooth pairing of any of the devices I tested. When I got it home and started using it I realised I just had to go out and buy a second one to pair it with, which I did the same day, and am blown away by them. They have a really appealing sound that makes you want to keep listening to your music.

After downloading and installing the firmware update the Double Up process in the Android app was flawless. If I could make one improvement it would be to link the volume controls on each of my Booms because it can be a little tiresome trying to make their volumes match.

As an aside, unwrapping these speakers was very pleasant - they come in well-designed packaging, and the power supply and lead are a fetching fluorescent yellow.

I've rated them 9 out of 10 for sound quality because while they're absolutely fine, particularly at this price, I prefer the bass extension of my B&W MM1s. I've also given them 9 out of 10 for connectivity because although this has been the best pairing experience I've ever had, there was one time I had to re-perform the double up process.
