Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Verge Review

If you’re looking for the biggest smartphone you can get, without regard for portability and price, then you needn’t look any further than the Sony Z Ultra. Available in two flavors, one with Sony’s custom Xperia branding, apps, and services, and another straight from Google with an unmolested version of Android, the Z Ultra is the current reigning champ in the neverending smartphone size wars. These identical twins, separated at birth and raised by different parents at opposite ends of...

I have had mine for over a month. I am afraid to test the waterproofing, for obvious reasons, and the size, despite what was said in the review, is not a problem and it fits perfectly in any pocket, although I would not keep it in my back pocket because it is so thin it would probably snap (I'm tempted to break it just to see what happens). I love the camera, the battery life is amazing. The included headphones are mind-numbingly difficult to use and I recommend using Beats or apple earbuds, but that isn't such a big deal. The design, while it is cool, I don't like the 90 degree edges and while water resistance is cool, the cover for the USB port is hard to use AND IT BROKE RIGHT OFF, causing me to need to use electrical tape to hold it on. Sony Select is handy, the concept of Xperia Themes is nice (I recommend Triflat), but the UI is still unattractive in my mind. Small apps are nice but I would like to have a full screen calculator app and I would like true multi-window support. Also, I want to root it and install Cyanogenmod but none of the root apps that I tried would work, contrary to what their websites said. Cyanogenmod installer didn't work either. Would not buy again.

I have to be sincere, I don't use that phone as a phone but I replaced my tablet. I previously owned a Note III and used a sole device but not I have a N5 and Xperia ZU. I find this device amazing. Fast, comfortable and very easy to use. I tried to install Cyanogen but with stock rom and Stamina optimization it's much better than custom rom. I can do 99% of the things and my laptop is practically unused while I'm travelling. I bought CP12 battery cover and battery life is not a problem anymore. It's best device for read books (best size, much better than 7'' tablet) and in landscape is OK for web browsing. Email software is perfect for my exchange account and LTE make it very fast wifi modem for my other devices (laptop mainly). I'm very happy.
