Then John Underkoffler — Oblong co-founder and chief scientist, as well as the science adviser for Minority Report and Iron Man — talks in-studio with Josh. Fascination, awe, even an ounce of fear — you won't believe Josh's range of emotion. Lastly, from the west coast, debonair west coast editor Dieter Bohn sits down with RIM CEO Thorsten Heins to figure out what really is going on with BlackBerry right now.

Bad news, folks. In a clever twist, Mother Nature has decided to drag-and-drop Hurricane Sandy and Arctic air over the Northeast United States this week — a phenomenon that's been affectionally called Frankenstorm*. Because of this, there's a really good chance city transportation will be taking the week off. For the safety of everyone involved (cast, crew, fans), we're postponing this Tuesday's On The Verge.

Fear not, though, as the weather will not last forever and we will return November 6th. In the meantime, if you're in an affected area, be sure to grab some necessary supplies and charge up every phone / tablet / laptop in the house. Download a few movies, games, e-books, too. From prose to prototype, this week's episode of On The Verge kept to a (fairly loose) theme about science fiction. First Josh, Nilay, and Paul took a look at one possible dystopic future as predicted by both Apple Store lines and iOS 6 Maps (it's all in good fun, we promise). HTC also graciously let the trio play around with a quartet of its new Windows Phone 8X flagship devices. Next up, Bryan Bishop took a trip out to legendary special effects house Industrial Light & Magic to learn, among other things, how The Hulk came to life on screen for The Avengers.

Then science fiction became science fact when Microsoft principal researcher Andy Wilson joined Josh on stage to show off some of the crazy projects he's been working on in the lab, including a wearable multitouch projector. We wrapped up on a lively discussion about what science fiction technology we want in the real world (spoiler: never bet against Josh's ability to know the people of New York and what they like).

We switched things up for this episode of On The Verge: Nilay took a trip to Washington DC to interview Senator Al Franken about how the government should regulate technology, including the Senator's controversial support of PIPA. Like Nilay Patel, the Senator has strong opinions on net neutrality and privacy. Unlike Nilay Patel, he can remain calm when explaining the issue to a room full of Senators.

Next, Mary Jo Foley stopped by the studio to talk to Josh, Nilay, and Paul abut all things Microsoft. She pulled no punches — she thought Windows 8 would be a "disaster" before she saw Surface and said that Windows Phone users "think different," but we can't help but feel like we've heard that one somewhere before.

We also heard music from Chipocrite, checked in with Dieter at the Google Fiber launch in Kansas City, and invented a new game show that is totally unique in every way. Seriously, we didn't just rip off Jeopardy.

Getting to speak with Damon Lindelof, the co-creator of Lost and screenwriter of Prometheus, was undoubtably an On The Verge highlight. In this teaser from our show last Thursday, Lindelof tells our own Joshua Topolsky about director Ridley Scott's strong hand in the creative process during the making of Prometheus — it turns out that when you're working with a director like Scott, screenwriting can be somewhat comparable to Mad Libs, with Lindelof filling in the blanks around Scott's vision.

On The Verge is back! The show returns Friday, April 27th, 2012, with two very special guests: Tony Fadell and Chris Grant. Tony is a former Apple exec who is now the CEO of Nest. We've covered Nest a bunch here at The Verge and we're excited to talk to Tony about his history at Apple, and what Nest can do to keep our podcast room cooler. It gets really hot in there, it's actually becoming a problem.

On The Verge returns Friday, February 10th with Jimmy Fallon!

On The Verge is back, prepare to have your minds blown: The big show returns on Friday, February 10th, 2012, with a very special guest: Jimmy Fallon. You probably know Jimmy from NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, where our very own Joshua Topolsky serves as resident tech expert. The tables have turned and Jimmy will be joining us on our show for the sort of frank, meaningful, and downright entertaining conversation that On The Verge provides. We'll also have news, demos, giveaways, hilarious interludes, and more.

We're also excited to have the incredible George & Jonathan as a special musical guest.

The show is taping at 7:00PM at the Manhattan Center TV Studio 1, located at 303 West 34th Street (across the street from Madison Square Garden and adjacent to the Hammerstein Ballroom) in New York City. Tickets for assigned seating will be available at the studio starting at 12:00pm on the day of the show. Here's what you need to know:

There is no admission fee — tickets are completely free.
The event is all ages.
Ticketing will begin at the TV Studio at 12:00PM on Friday. Once you collect your ticket you can return for house open at 6:30pm, and the show begins at 7:00PM. You cannot collect tickets for friends or family -- anyone who would like to come must be present to get a ticket.
We have limited capacity for seating, so be sure to get there early to get a ticket!
The venue is located at 303 West 34th Street (across the street from Madison Square Garden and adjacent to the Hammerstein Ballroom) in New York City. Directions to the theater can be found below

The second episode of On The Verge was taped last night to wide appeal. Interestingly, John actually thinks Apple might get better at some of the little details of design with out Steve, but of course there's the bigger picture to consider. On The Verge, Episode 001: Google's Matias Duarte

We really did it, guys: we made a show. On Monday night, Joshua, Nilay, and Paul gathered in front of a live, studio audience, and, frankly, blew minds. Special guest Matias Duarte sat down with Josh for an in-depth interview, along with a little game we like to call "Rate That Skin!" We also got to do a live demonstration of the Lytro light field camera, and Josh and the boys ran through their favorite "New Thing," with 15 seconds apiece to share their hearts.
