Stand up, sit down, miss the chair, wonder how you did, look back, see your buddies, curse the sky, try to stand up, banana peel, slip and fall again, seriously wonder how you missed that, try to block out everyone laughing by humming a song, realize it's a very lame song from the 90s and you're humming very loud, realize everyone is now laughing harder, turn beet red, wonder why you've been spelling it "beat red" all this time without questioning it, realize you're still on the floor, give up on trying to stand, crab walk to nearest exit, stand up, brush yourself off, go home, lay in bed, open laptop, watch Vergecast, take a deep breath, watch Top Shelf.

This just in: all cameras in The Vergecast studio have been replaced with drones. Drones with their own AI-driven personalities. They're curious, they're nosy, they're surprisingly stable. If you see a drone, do not panic. Approach slowly, let it warm up to you first. If the drone is watching The Vergecast, please let it be. Do not startle it — our feed will look terrible and, to be perfectly honest, those little helicopter blades are kind of painful.

The Vergecast After Hours at CES - Night 3

Day two of the show floor. Day four of all CES news coming out in full force. Day... we lost count... of us being in Las Vegas preparing for the spectacle. It's been a long time. Delusional is the nice way of putting it. Whatever, here's The Vergecast, it's gonna be a thrill ride beyond poetic description!

The Vergecast After Hours at CES - Night 2

First day of the show floor. The TV-to-person ratio begins to inch closer to one in a very concentrated geographical location in Las Vegas, Nevada. CES has really and truly begun. Or maybe, just maybe, it has ended. Will tomorrow be different than today? Could it? Have all these descriptions ended in a series of questions? Is that a sign of our loss of sanity? Probably. Let's do Vergecast after hours.

The Vergecast 059 - December 28th, 2012

This is the end, my only friend, the end.

But not the end of the world — not even the end of our daily print publication, 90 Pages on The Verge on College-Ruled Notebook Paper (with a readership of approximately three mothers to staff writers). It's just the end of the year for The Vergecast, the last before we take the 2012 calendars down and put up a 2013 calendar (or, for those who like to recycle, calendars from the years 2002, 1991, 1985, 1974, 1963, 1957, 1946, 1935, 1929, 1918, 1907, 1901, and so on and so forth...). Josh and Nilay took a week off to spend time with families, which has given them plenty of time to gather thoughts about the latest in Facebook and Instagram privacy fears.

There was also time to reflect, poetically, on what CES means for 2013 and beyond — we'll be there in full force, of course, but with a new outlook on life. All this and more plus Ross Miller filling in for Paul (his Offline Terms of Service stipulates against Google+ Hangouts [okay, maybe that joke is a little mean <a little mean to terms of services that is also paul sorry>]).

In Tim Cook's first 16 month as Apple's CEO, he has had little to say to the media outside of product announcements — that is, until this week.
Patel, Miller, and Miller: three righteous brosephs with a lot on their minds. First up: two executives with questionable social graces step down in the past month — first Apple's Scott Forestall and now Microsoft's Steven Sinofsky. Does this mark the end of an era for jerks? And if so, who's next on the chopping block? The Verge's Microsoft guru Tom Warren stops by to share his thoughts on the resignation of Sinofsky and what it means to the future of the company.

Next: The War for TV continues (will it ever end?). We take calls to hear what kinds of setups listeners have in their living rooms and what it would take to cut the cord (if they haven't already). Also, learn how Nilay became the hero of his college dorm.

It was just about one year ago that a powerful explosion triggered a multitude of chemical reactions which caused a mutation in the primordial ooze that resulted in the birth of The Verge. It has since grown from an awkward and slimy baby into a mischievous but lovable toddler. The cultural phenomenon evolved a lot in the first year, but it still has a lot of growing up to do.

On this weeks Vergecast Josh, Nilay, and Paul take a moment to celebrate and reflect on the past year. And what better way to celebrate than with party hats, cup cakes, and a rousing political debate.

It's the halfway point of what we on staff have affectionally termed "Late October Madness," with Apple this past Tuesday and Google / Windows Phone this upcoming Monday. Thursday was all about Microsoft: the company held two events to celebrate the launch of Windows 8 and the new Surface tablet. Thankfully we imported our UK-based Senior News Editor (and Microsoft guru) Tom Warren for just such an occasion. He joins David and Nilay through a lively discussion. You can try to follow along with a table of contents, but that's almost an exercise in futility — pretty much all roads lead back to Microsoft.

With events from Nokia, Motorolla, and Amazon this week, it goes without saying that this week's Vergecast is quite eventful. So eventful you might even say that it's actually an event of its own. Lets call it an event event. And what's an event without special guests? Speaking of special guests: We are joined in-studio by the UK's own Tom Warren and Dieter "The Bohn Zone" Bohn who have plenty to say about the latest announcements from Nokia and Motorolla. And Ross Miller and David Pierce join us live from Los Angeles to share Amazon's latest revelations. Did these three companies do enough to steal Apple 's thunder next week? Only time will tell.

The Vergecast returns this week with a special king-sized edition running two hours. Is AT&T's decision to require a new Mobile Share plan for cellular FaceTime calls purely profit driven, or part of an international conspiracy to piss off Nilay?
And in a week jam packed with news from Apple vs. Samsung, Facebook, Amazon, and Onlive, Microsoft decides to grab a piece of the spotlight with the release of a brand new logo.

Joshua Topolsky makes his triumphant return to The Vergecast the same week as NASA lands its Curiosity rover on Mars. Global conspiracy or coincidence? We'll let you decide. While we can neither confirm nor deny Josh's involvement in this galactic feat, it was quite an achievement for mankind and an important step towards our ultimate goal of establishing a Foursquare presence on every planet. To balance out victory with a dose of defeat, a group of hackers destroyed a tech journalist's digital life, revealing startling security flaws in Apple and Amazon accounts. And is the $22.5 million penalty enforced on Google a big win for online privacy advocates and FTC, or just a slap on the wrist?

The Vergecast 037 - July 05, 2012

The Vergecast is back with a very special reunion edition. On today's episode, Nilay and Paul join Josh in the studio for the first time in over six weeks! With a month full of major tech news, Nilay's wedding, and Paul's madcap adventures, the guys have a lot to catch up on. And after a day of celebrating America's Freedom, The Vergecasters take a moment to reflect on the relatively constrained state of the American wireless marketplace. Are carriers acting as a barrier to the pursuit of innovation? Should patent law be governed by the rules of Streetball? Should Nilay run for president? Find out on today's Vergecast.

Much like Apple and Microsoft before it, Google decided to control the news cycle for a full week via its I/O conference. The company unveiled Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and not one but two new pieces of hardware — the much-lauded Nexus 7 tablet and the confused child that is Nexus Q. Somewhere in between, RIM fell on even harder times. Laura June, Ellis Hamburger, and Dieter Bohn join Josh to make sense of this new world.
