It's not the Galaxy Nexus availability announcement you've been hoping for, but Verizon is announcing that those new 8.2 and 10.1 Motorola Droid Xyboards will be available starting today on its website and Monday in brick and mortar stores. Of course, the big question is if anyone out there is really willing to plop down the cash: to recap, the 16GB 10.1 Xyboard is set at $529.99 and the 8.2 at $429.99. Both of those prices require you to sign a two-year contract, meaning you'll be committing to spend at least $30 a month for the next 24 months for LTE data. We had the specs and the availability and now we've got the pricing. Verizon has just officially announced that its version of the Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition — the poorly-named Droid Xyboard 8.2 and 10.1 — will be hitting this month. However, like the original Xoom, you're looking at a two-year contract and some rather high pricing. The 16GB model of the 8.2 will go for $430 while the Xyboard 10.1 will hit for $530. Those prices are not only higher than the UKs Wi-Fi-only offerings, but you've also got to commit to two years of Verizon service, which is a minimum of $30 a month for 2GB of data. It doesn't appear that you can buy the tablet off-contract, though we are confirming with Verizon.

Verizon just casually announced that it'll be launching two "Xyboard Droid" tablets from Motorola later this month — the mention is tucked into a press release noting the one-year anniversary of the carrier's 4G LTE network. We're assuming these are the LTE variants of the 10-inch Xoom 2 and 8-inch Xoom 2 Media Edition Verizon showed to CNET last week, but it's particularly strange that Motorola hasn't yet said one word about these particular devices; Motorola and Verizon are typically in lockstep on product launches. It's also strange that the PR calls them "Xyboard Droid" devices, when every previous leak and mention has used the "Droid Xyboard" name. You know what would clear all this up? A proper product launch.

The name isn't explicit, though — it's referred to as the "Motorola Tablet," suggesting that either one of the companies has had a moment of clarity or that the new brand is still being kept under wraps. We've heard rumors that Motorola's next generation Xoom tablets would be rebranded under the Droid Xyboard name for Verizon, and now an image has leaked to PocketNow supposedly showing off the 8.2-inch Motorola tablet with Verizon LTE onboard. If these images are indeed legit, it looks like Motorola's Xoom branding will be done away with, at least in the US. Aside from the name change and Verizon LTE capability, this tablet should match the Xoom 2 Media Edition that was recently announced by Motorola. We don't know for sure if this name will stick, but signs are certainly pointing that way — now we'd like to see a photo of the 10.1-inch Droid Xyboard with Verizon branding. Also, pricing and availability would be nice.

The Xoom 2 and its little brother, the Xoom 2 Media Edition, may be headed to Verizon under the Droid Xyboard 10.1 and 8.2 monickers, according to PocketNow. We've already seen via a leaked Verizon stock system grab that the sequels to the original Honeycomb tablet are on their way to the carrier, but the name change comes as more of a surprise. The tablets will be the first to be marketed under the Droid brand, but the Xyboard name is a little more unexpected. Verizon trademarked Xyboard just over a month ago with the USPTO, but with the relative success and familiarity the Xoom brand now holds, it seems like an odd choice to move to a totally new — and potentially divisive — name.
