iPad mini event will be streamed live on the web to iOS, Mac, and Apple TV users

Apple will stream a live video feed from today's iPad mini keynote directly to Apple TVs. Users with an Apple TV should see a new "Apple events" icon on their homescreen. Clicking on the icon will take you to a page inviting you to tune in at 10AM Pacific time to watch the event live. First noticed by MacRumors, the decision marks a u-turn for Apple, which hasn't broadcast live video from an event since 2010.

<strike>It's not clear if Apple will offer streaming through other mediums. We've had a look through the iOS App Store and iTunes to see if there is any hint of a mobile streaming solution, but haven't found anything yet. Apple's Events page also offers no hint of a live stream.</strike> We'll keep you updated if anything changes, but we'll be at...

Apple is hosting an event this coming Tuesday to unveil its next big, or not so big, thing, the iPad mini. Will the iPad mini rock the tablet world once again? Will it look exactly like the dummy models we've seen leaked numerous times? What about the iPad 3? How will it feel to have a smaller upstart taking its spotlight away? We'll be on the ground in San Jose to answer all of these questions and more. Tune in to our live blog at 10AM PT on Tuesday, October 23rd and you won't miss a thing.

Apple's iPad mini event is happening on October 23rd, and we'll be there live!

It's really happening. Apple will hold an event on October 23rd to announce the long-rumored, smaller iPad. At least, that's what an invitation just sent out from Apple PR suggests. An iPad with a smaller screen size has been rumored for months, and the company almost certainly wants to announce the product before the holiday buying season to compete with cheaper tablets like the Kindle Fire and Nexus 7 — and of course put the hurt on Microsoft's big Surface release.

We'll be covering the event live from the California Theatre in San Jose, bringing you the most stable, reliable, and entertaining live blog in the industry. You can also join us post-event for immediate analysis of all the news. Keep it tuned to The Verge on the 23rd —...

Apple to launch iPad mini at October 23rd event, says AllThingsD

Beyond the date there aren't too many new details to take out from the article; AllThingsD says its sources declined to say where the event will be held.

Recent reports have been in agreement that we should expect a 7.85-inch iPad with Apple's new Lightning connector, and an "ultra-thin" design.
iPad mini: rounding up the rumors

If there were ever any lingering doubt that we're no longer in the era of Apple launching each new product under an opaque veil of secrecy, last month's iPhone 5 announcement swept it away for good. Almost every detail of Apple's latest phone had been thoroughly leaked before the reveal, making it a somewhat less exciting event than in the past; it's clear that, going forward, this will likely be the norm. That brings us to this month's presumed unveiling of a smaller iPad, already extensively leaked and dubbed the "iPad mini" by much of the world.

There's no doubt that sub-8-inch tablets have their audience

Rumors of such a product have floated around for some time, despite Steve Jobs' well-publicized reservations about users needing...

Apple begins iPad mini production, claims Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal is this morning citing sources from within Apple's supply chain in asserting that the company has begun production of a new tablet device, which is smaller than its 9.7-inch iPad. Two of the informants claim the new device's screen measures 7.85 inches diagonally — affirming what Bloomberg reported in August — with LG Display and AU Optronics having started manufacturing the LCD panels for it last month. The resolution on this purported new slate is said to be lower than on the latest iPad, but that's to be expected given the 2048 x 1536 Retina resolution on the bigger tablet.

Supposed iPad mini design emerges in detailed pictures

French website Nowhere Else has published a series of pictures purporting to show the design of Apple's much-rumored iPad mini, the supposed 7.85-inch successor to the company's popular iPad. Like the detailed iPhone 5 mockup that we saw at IFA, this unit appears to be some sort of model put together based on existing rumors, with the display in particular looking distinctly non-functional. As Nowhere Else points out, the device's ports and buttons line up with holes seen in a number of leaked accessories, but this in itself is no guarantee of accuracy.

While the new iPhone is almost certain to be announced at an event in San Francisco tomorrow, it is not yet clear when we can expect official details of the latest iPad to emerge —...

iPad mini will arrive in October with 7.85-inch display, says Bloomberg

The rumored iPad mini will reportedly launch this October with a 7.85-inch display. Bloomberg has cited four separate sources "familiar with the plans" for the date and screen size. It says that the new, smaller, displays will be manufactured by both LG Display and AU Optronics. Its sources also report that two companies, TPK Holding and Foxconn subsidiary Yeh Cheng, will supply the lamination coating for the device.

There's no indication of what resolution the iPad mini's display will be, but Bloomberg's report lines up with previous rumors of a 7.85-inch tablet. Apple is expected to hold a press event on September 12th to announce the rumored "iPhone 5," and if Bloomberg's October prediction is true, it's likely that we'll hear...
