‘Kopf in den Sand stecken’ ;-)
I essentially agree with you, in fact I like how people here are usually extremely careful when it comes to (online) privacy. I am, too. I just wish that more people would try to really understand what’s going on before they reject a new idea, that’s all. But then again, most people are not tech-savvy, I know..

Like arktype said, it’s the front of the house, visible to anyone driving by. Anyone can take pictures of it. People are blurred. What makes the front of the house so different from the top (satellite view)? None of those people complained about Google Maps.
Granted, it’s a little different if you can associate an address that easy, but I’m not saying that I don’t respect their choice, in fact I do even if I don’t agree. What I complain about is their reasons. I live here, I’ve talked to quite a few people about it, and 95% of the time they had no idea what it was really about, what would really be visible. They read somewhere someone might see them in their bedroom, so they were against it. Fine, their decision, but it affects everyone who would like to use such a service. That’s the problem.

Yeah, it’s not the concerns that annoy me, those would be legit if people knew what they were talking about. The problem is: they DON’T! It’s just a vague fear in the back of their heads, they don’t really deal with the situation. And newspapers raise their concerns with false arguments.
Everyone loves to use Google’s or Microsoft’s services for free, but when it comes to new services, here comes big and evil Google or Microsoft. “No way, the are not getting a picture of my house”, saying that to a reporter who broadcasts the pictures of exact that house all over German television is kinda ridiculous.

I just love this mail-client. Good to know they are still working on it, not only iOS now…
Oh and it’s the little things that count, too: “Empty Spam Button” is what I seriously missed so far. ;)

Jony Ive is a great designer, no doubt about that. If you read about him, e.g. how he travels to Japanese sword masters to find out what can be really done with metal, you know that he’s living his design.
When it comes to art, I really think there’s a difference between copying and something called inspiration. Where do you draw the line? I don’t know.. but because of Ive skills I say that he is heavily inspired by Rahm, which is not bad at all. Besides, someone said it already, Rahm himself approved Apple’s design, e.g. in the movie design-documentary “Objectified”.

I wouldn’t say that. Some views are far left, some are liberal, some are even almost right wing. They are still figuring out their views on topics other than IT/internet/media.. They need some time, their success and quick rising surprised everyone, including their own members.

I have a Mac too, and installed it in Parallels as a VM. Took me about 10 minutes. So, that’s no excuse.. ;-)

I have to agree, Ubuntu has become quite impressive, and this article could be much longer, including a test and a video maybe.

@theverge Guys this news was kind of late! I expected a little more from you, especially since this Ubuntu release is a quite important one (refined, LTS). Next time please break the news like you usually do. ;)
I tried 12.04 (not 12.0.4 indeed!) out yesterday, and as a Mac-user I feel right at home! I like it a lot, Linux is pretty advanced, it’s been a while since I tried using it. I can only recommend testing it, especially if you don’t have a Mac but like the OS. Sure, there are still differences, but you can feel the similarities.
