You’re missing the point entirely. Obviously Windows is everywhere on PC’s. But how often are you listening to music on your PC compared to on your phone? As I previously said, I bet that most listening is done on mobile.
MS may have the best music service EVAH, but if I can’t use it on my smartphone than it’s completely useless to me.
The other services, Google Music, Spotify, Pandora and presumably iRadio, all have web interfaces meaning I can continue to use them no matter where I am or what I’m doing. It’s a huge difference.

While everyone’s habits vary, I know I use my mobile device to listen to music WAY more often than my pc. I’d venture to guess that most people probably do the same.

They also neglected to mention the guy down on the street corner who will play nearly anything you like for tips!
Point being, as good as it might be if no one uses it then it’s not really relevant. Fact of the matter is iOS and Android are everywhere. WP8 isn’t.

Yeah, free is hard to compete with. The way I figure it, I rarely ever buy $10 of music per month, so I’m much better served using Pandora’s free option and buying the occasional song/album when the desire strikes.

Yeah, I’m in the same boat. I checked out Spotify but their radio feature sucked. Consequently I stuck with Pandora

It seems like it would be pretty poor user experience to not include a way to subscribe. Unless I’m mistaken the app wouldn’t be able to provide a link to a website they could use to sign up without having to fork over 30% to Apple. If that’s correct, then how would it work?

If they had an iOS app, wouldn’t they then have to cut Apple in for 30% of any sales/subscriptions? If so, I’d guess you’re not likely to ever see an iOS app.
If not… dunno.
