I have not dissagreed on that level. They are indeed struggeling and it is not windows phone that is giving them the edge. But I do believe that it was their best shot at the time. Or that it must have at least looked like their best shot.
There is one thing that I think might shift the numbers a bit and that’s the low cost windows smartphones. They are a lot faster than android, easier to use and they look better than the other crap sold for low prices. Especially in the european markets.
I think it’s still a bit early to Judge what will happen. However at this moment your numbers are completely correct.

Believe it or not, I think their new approach of respecting privacy, being cool and acting like they listen to the users and implement changes based on all the feedback is working on some level.
However the normal consumers aren’t there just yet. But I guess that just needs time. Lots of people are changing their minds about internet explorer, bing etc…
They are nowhere close to Google though…

It Always struck me as odd why the advertisements where very limited when streaming for free. And It’s Always the same advertisement about the xbox music pass. I wouldn’t mind a bit more advertising in between songs if it remains free. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind paying for the xbox music pass but consumers would be more interested to check it out.

You have a point though.
I love xbox music but they should indeed put this service out there on other platforms and the web…

I have not used the series 7 ultra however I do own a yoga 13 and if you are into the gimmicks of the yoga, go for the yoga. I guess if you want specs and will only use it as a laptop feel free to go for the samsung…
I don’t have any bad experiences with the yoga. It’s a great machine and I love working with it. The tablet modes are actually quite handy in some situations and I really have to admit that after a while I really started using the tablet mode more and more, it feels weird in the beginning though.

Althought the facts are correct I think you should take this with a grain of salt. If Nokia had continued on by themselves they would have probably had a steep decline in sales because symbian was just not that fancy looking as its counterparts. The sales were already declining and at that time they couldn’t improve their OS to compete with the likes of Apple…The hype around iphones was extremely big not to mention Apple already had some sort of ecosystem in place included in personal computers and laptops.
They had to do something and it was either partnering up with Microsoft and getting some extra cash to help develop the hardware or trying the android market without any help from Google. Creating a new exciting OS wouldn’t have been a good idea let alone a very difficult task.
Shares going down due to the partnership could have also been expected since partnering up looks like a “desperate act” to get back into the mobile market. It’s not like they went down JUST because they teamed up with Microsoft…There is of course more to it.
It’s all one big “what if” game. in the end we will never know if they would have done better with a different choice.

Personally I also love the gimmicks the yoga brings with it’s computer. The Samsung is a nice laptop, don’t get me wrong. But the truth is for the things I need to do with it, I’d rather have the yoga.
I did say I would love a laptop that has everything. But in the end I have desktop computer to play games and a smartphone to make phonecalls, play music and tell me where to go. At the time the yoga made sense for the things I have to do with it. If I had to make a choice right now I would go for the convertible form factor again. After using it for 4 months I think I would really miss it’s flexibility.
Windows 8 also makes a lot of sense on this and the review right here on the verge and other websites also add to this.
I do agree however that by my description in my first post the samsung comes closer because of the GPU. I was however just stating that there is no perfect laptop out there right now. A tablet is useless to me so the yoga is a nice replacement for both.

I bought the yoga 13 because you can put an i7 in it with 8 gb’s of ram.
The downfalls are: gpu, no pen digitizer and “only” 1600 * 900…(but the screen is still sharp and nice to look at)
The tablet, tent and stand mode all have their use and I love using all of them in certain situations.
If you buy a pen you can use touch and it’s enough to write on your screen. (although it’s not the best solution)
You Always have to compromise somewhere…
The perfect laptop for me would be a very light 13 inch laptop with an i7, Lots of ram a decent GPU, touch and pen support…the yoga came quite close…

Skype is very bad at this time. They discontinued their free messaging service: Messenger and want Skype to replace it. But whenever I try Skype it floods me with double contacts and other annoying things…
Just integrate the people app into Skype and be done with it. Make us add facebook to our account and put everything from the message app into Skype.
Either that or keep the message app and improve it to support all of the Skype features (this would be the better option, but at this point it seems like this will never happen)
But the way it is handled right now is just ridiculous.
I love Windows and Windows Phone but Skype is something on which they really dropped the ball.
