For sure you can switch ecosystem. I was on a bb 77XX and then went to the iphone 3 then 3gs and then the 4.. Then i realized i needed a phone to make calls reliably and put my iphone 4 down and got a 9780. Then the 9900 came out so i got one of them, became bored and got a s3 when they came out. Great phone, lots of eyecandy for a tech like me, but typing, email and txting was never the same for me. Tried alot of keyboards and was always fustrated with spelling errors etc so i mainly replied to long emails on my pc. Then i got a z10 ten to test with out BES server to make sure it worked well before i rolled it out.. I never gave the z10 back. My s3 has been collecting dust.. BB10 works way better for me. But i mostly use my phone to communicate or browse the web, both of which bb10 excels at. I find that after 2 months i’m not constantly annoyed at the auto correct changing words i spelled correctly to something else.
What am i saying? because i spend 10$ to 200$ on apps in a ecosystem over a year its not enough to keep me on an os when there is something newer or better. I quickly forget about the games i used to kill time and replace them with something newer or better. The world moves on.. Being brand loyal makes you an idiot.. No point sticking with brand when there is something better out there that fits or works with you better. You don’t get anything for being loyal to a company that is soley there to make money off you.
Actually, we love BES.. Its much easier dealing with BYOD and company devices then all of the other MDM solutions. The added bonus is that all our BB10 phones allow our employess to access the internal file servers natively with the blackberry drives app in the work perimeter without having to setup VPN etc for them. This gives all our users the ability to run a Power point, excel, or whatever on a projector remotely via the HDMI out without having to do anything other then show up in a meeting with their phone. I didn’t think it would be that usefull, but it is used alot.
I was on an s3 and never saw myself leaving it except for the s4.. But since getting the z10 at launch to ensure Bes 10 was ready to roll out and getting a feeling for the OS so we can support the end users, i haven’t gone back. I love this phone. Really.. it just flows well and typing on it is way better then the native s3 keyboard or swiftkey. They always auto corrected words that were spelled correctly. I stopped trying to reply to long emails on the go.
The only Apps i miss are Addias Micoach and myfitness pall which i used on the s3 and my iphone 4s before that. Otherwise this phone feels faster and the web browser is much better then Dolphin an chome on my s3.
