By skimming the post I’m guessing it boils down to your usage, which apps/widgets/data you are letting sync/update in the background as well as not letting your phone sleep. Try setting your display timeout to the shortest time and let the phone go, take a rest and let Juice Defender do his job.
This is Sony’s fault, not Android’s. Sony’s builds suck, lag and are bug ridden. If you can’t stand it anymore then I suggest you try installing Free Xperia Cyanogenmod 9 on it, or having someone help you with it if you need help. You can also wait for the Free Xperia team to debug Cyanogenmod 10 for it, it looks like they are pretty close to it if you can wait some time.
If none of these are an option for you then sell it and ditch Phony, get a Nexus 4, it’s very close in pricing. I have an Xperia so I know how you feel, I’m waiting for Cyanogenmod 10 since I feel I can wait a little. For your same reasons and crappy updates (if any). I’m not buying Phony ever again after being a Sony mobile fanboy.

This is pre-2007 and it had gestures, pinch to zoom, flicking, multi-touch, resizable virtual-keyboard, etc. The screen was a different technology but you’d be really naive to think that Apple had anything to do with the invention of interaction with multi-touch devices via the gestures you mention, making it popular and available on a mass scale is a whole different story and you can give them credit for that. Without apple we’d be a year behind or two at most, but some people (OP) take this out of proportion and seem to think we’d be on the stone age without apple.
Sony has made sure to kick any desire to buy any future phones from them out of me, so the most important question is….where did you get that wallpaper with the rocks? I want it!
