I know that it is harder to make money on Android than it is on iOS, but that doesn’t have anything to do with Samsung. The law of large numbers comes into play when I think about how Samsung affects Android. If only 10% of Android users pay for apps and Samsung just increased the Android population, then more money is being spent at the Google Play Store, meaning developers make more money. Also, apps that are free due to ad-subsidies will have more views/clicks since there are more people with devices. The app revenue situation on Android isn’t great, but Samsung’s efforts have only helped the situation, not hurt it.

I agree that the issue is a little overblown. I feel that 99% of users would be satisfied with the picture quality of a modern smartphone while the 1% that isn’t satisfied probably has the means of taking a picture anyway (point and shoot, DSLR).

I really appreciate Samsung. Their marketing efforts have resulted in more people buying their products, meaning more people are using Android devices. The more people with Android devices, the more developers want to make apps for Android. This means more/better apps for all of us.

Specs aren’t everything, but specs definitely matter to a certain extent. The overall experience of a device is at least in part due to its specs. Also, I never said that bigger is better, I said a big phone is good for the consumer. Some people are willing to sacrifice single-hand operation to have a larger screen for watching movies and playing games. Having larger phone gives these consumers the choice to make a decision based on what they value in a device.

When did I say bigger was better? Even if there was confusion in my first post, the second presented a use-case scenario in which having a larger device would be advantageous for certain consumers. You are really reaching.

Good for the consumer doesn’t necessarily mean good for “you” in particular. Someone I work with watches Netflix during his lunch break everyday, that is one of his benefits in having a larger phone.

Samsung highlights some pretty good, very specific use-cases for the gimmicks though, i’ll give them that.

Big phones are good for the consumer, but it surely wouldn’t hurt to offer higher-end smaller devices for people who don’t want a large phone. I own a Galaxy S3, and the primary reason I bought the phone is because it had strong specs at the time. Unfortunately in the world of Android (hopefully, only for the time being) if you want something that is good, its going to be quite large. Some of Touchwiz’s features are actually ok (SmartStay), while some are absolutely terrible (S-Voice).
