Ouch. Yep, sounds like it’s time for a new device. Right before my G-Nexus’s untimely demise (it got destroyed at work), it would get stuck in portrait mode and wouldn’t go to landscape mode even after I visually verified that the screen lock was off. Restores and reboots didn’t fix it either. I don’t know what was causing it; I’m thinking something in the hardware was probably starting to fail. So even had it not gotten smashed, I don’t think it would’ve lasted much longer after that anyway.

^ This. My Nexus 4’s battery life was mediocre at first, then I did a wipe & restore and that helped a lot.

Thank you for sharing that; that was actually very informative. I learned something about Li-ion batteries today.
It kinda makes more of a case for having removable/replaceable batteries; if your battery gets old and doesn’t hold a charge like it used to, you can always buy a replacement and just swap it out. That is, as long as replacement batteries are still available for your device. I remember doing this with my old BlackBerry after its battery had degraded beyond usability.

I used my volume up button all the time to snap shots with my iPhone 4 when I had it. One of my iPhone-using friends was recently commenting on how he wishes there was a dedicated shutter button for the camera. I told him there is, just use the volume up button. His mind was blown, because he never even knew that feature was there. I suspect many (if not most) people are unaware of that feature as well.

LOL no worries. Yeah, I just press and hold the shutter button, let it focus, then release it to snap it. That tends to “cover a multitude of sins,” so to speak, when it comes to the N4’s camera and its picture quality, especially at close range. The key to getting good shots with the N4 is to make sure it’s focused properly, and that you’ve got enough light. I don’t even bother shooting in low light; this just isn’t the camera for that. But in daylight it does fine.

I was just messing with it and the redesign looks OK. I’m OK with the orange. Some of the buttons need to be just a little bigger and easier to hit without accidentally hitting the wrong button. But for the most part I’m cool with the redesign. I like how they added the prices to the items in the grid/thumbnail view, like when you first open Play and you see all the music, videos, books, etc.
Has anyone else noticed that the delete button appears to be missing now? If you try to delete a song, the delete button isn’t there anymore, unless they’ve moved it to somewhere else that I haven’t found yet.
I’ve just been having issue after issue with Play Music since I tried using it. I don’t know why. I had hoped that this update would fix it, but it’s still not working right.

Oh, OK. I was referring more to close-up shots. I’ve been noticing that if I tap and hold it down for a moment before releasing it, it tends to focus better, especially with close-up subjects. Sometimes my N4 doesn’t seem to be exactly sure what to focus on, so I help it by holding the button down until I’m happy with what I’m seeing on the screen. Then I release it and it snaps it. This method really only works with stationary or slow-moving subjects, tho. For fast-moving subjects it isn’t effective at all. To be fair, I guess nothing would be in that case.

Tap and hold, give it a moment to focus properly, then release the button to snap the shot. That’s what’s been working for me with my Nexus 4.
