1.4ghz quad core on phone
finally, excellent performance.
Samsung really knocked it out of the park on this one. Battery life, no lag, decent looking device (it’s not as ugly as most people are playing it off as)… nice phone all around. Because you’re not using the phone side by side with a One X constantly, you won’t even notice a difference between the screens.
Also, putting the phones together in an environment that favors the HTC (light) really is kind of a dick move.

wow, you are the worst kind of apple fanboy. how is 90% an ok number for voice recognition? One mistake, and you’re better off just doing it yourself.

After reading your post, I was compelled to log in and comment. I wanted to say, excellent post, excellent idea, and I hope MS implements something like this quickly. Make search robust and unique, something that works quickly and works well. This is a great way to differentiate AND use all the integrated services.
Here’s my qualms with it.
1) It won’t work well on currently available hardware. There’s too much going on for my first gen handset to handle just clicking on the search button as it is now (the only real part of the OS I get lag on my samsung focus). Then again, technology progresses and life goes on, and there’s no reason MS should hold back on implementing new features 2 years after my hardware is already old. So, bring on the awesome new features, i’ll get to them eventually =)
2) It may be a little too busy. Metro is about clean and simple design, and there may just be too much happening on one screen. Then again, if you want a lot of features, it’s going to get cluttered eventually. Decisions, decisions.
3) Sometimes when I hit the search button, that’s all I really want – just to search the internet. I dont want to have to navigate tothe home page first either, as you have suggested in the pictures. It’s an extra step and really just will draw the fanboi ire from android users. How about a long press of the search button to bring a little search bar down from the top of the screen? That would be slick. To use the search feature as you described, a simple tap of the search button will look through the camera, listen through the microphone, and all the rest. Could make for a fun feature just within search.

Slow and steady adoption will be the name of the game, which will lead to some interesting trolling early on. Fortunately, I think Win8 will slowly make its way into the world, and that’s fine by me. I’m excited to see what the initial release looks like.

This isn’t an XP to Vista kind of experience. This is a reduction in necessary specs, and a new way of interacting with the system completely. Vista was released a year or two earlier than it should have been, with higher necessary specs (people weren’t buying new computers at the rate MS had hoped) and too close to the time that XP was still rolling.
Windows 8 is probably placed a little close to windows 7, but it is a necessary move because the way we interact with PC’s needs to change to keep up with changing paradigms in computing. So, I predict a slow start, but steady growth.

well, it may include potential windows RT sales, or it may just be an uneducated guess. Like, hey, wouldn’t it be cool to have 500 million licenses in the first year?

Sorry if I came off a little rude, but I’m confident in what MS can do. I think they provide a great product that people are willing to pay for, so no need to change things up just yet. Kind of a “if it ain’t broke” thing.

First off, all I use the start screen (start menu in older versions) for is searching. I just start typing and hit enter. Unfortunately, windows 8 is almost a step backward – it adds an extra level to filter your results by settings, programs, and files, but that also adds a step if you are looking for a file or setting.
The workaround is to tap down on the keyboard to go to the correct filter, if necessary. For example, searching for a control panel setting will be 1 down arrow tap, then enter (most likely, anyway). It frustrated me at first, but it is actually kind of useful. The search has become more robust, but is actually still rather simple. I like it, but I certainly didn’t at first.

Do you know anything about FRAND patents? About how Moto is under investigation for asking an excessive amount to license them? About the EU investigation? I know Boghog already posted all this, but it seesm like you are ignoring it.
