Why would we need to wait for Playstation 5 for motion-based gaming? If a scenario like the one you describe plays out, why couldn’t we go and buy a PS Eye for $59?

I agree. I also think we’ll see one implement a new function if they think it’s siphoning market share to the other, like the Kinect and Move were responses to the Wii’s motion-based control. If you compare a list of features (not specs) of the current generation, you’ll see that they’re awfully similar. No reason to think that’s going to stop all of a sudden

I can’t tell you how much easier navigating TV will be with the Kinect’s voice software
Yeah, no one can, because no one’s tried it yet, including you. And how lazy do you have to be to require navigating TV to be easier. You then go on to state that comparing games is retarded, but offer your comparison anyway.
Also, the type of connection you have to your mom’s house isn’t as important as the latency to and from. As you’ve experienced first-hand, 75/35 can still have problems if latency to the host is lousy.

I’m a PS3 fan through and through, but here’s the thing…the only games where the differences in hardware are going to be exploited are in the exclusives. Any cross-platform game is going to be developed to the lowest common denominator. This means if you aren’t a fan of Sony’s first-party games, then you really don’t have any reason to worry, since you weren’t going to buy a PS4 anyway. All the CoDs and BFs and Maddens will probably be indistinguishable between the two consoles.

I can’t be the first to point out that MS also hasn’t placed a restriction on used games. They deftly passed the buck to the publishers. Might Sony be doing the same thing in a more PR-friendly manner?

I also think there is no confusion about where you can use the Starbucks app, while there may be confusion around which retailers support which mobile payment technology. Personally, I also like that the SB app notifies me of the App and Song of the week and makes both immediately downloadable to my phone. Regardless of what you think of their actual product, it cannot be overstated just how well thought out this app is.

Here are two other options:
With the exception of obtaining content that isn’t available in your region (and even that is a grey area), it’s pretty hard to justify piracy. You make it sound like Ultraviolet is your only option to get physical content into digital form, which is false.

The only value I could see here is to upgrade DVDs you own to HD quality for $5. With the wonkyness of the current version, why pay to rip your DVD or BluRay to equal quality when there are a million apps that can do this for free or a flat software license cost?

He’s onto something with retweeting. I think Twitter Corporate needed a metric in order to be able to assign values to individual tweets (and by extension, the tweeter). The retweet was born.

This is the status quo, so why would it be a problem now? PSN has always been free, and you’ve paid for XBL for years…you said so yourself. Why, all of a sudden, do you think this is going to have more of an impact on decision-making than it already does?
The only way I see this being a huge problem is if MS wants to charge XBL Gold membership to take advantage of the media features, like the ESPN demo and TV guide things they were showing.

But they were taxed…in the countries where they were earned. Just as Apple paid its taxes on the revenues earned in the US.
Oversimplification ahead: How enthusiastic would you be about taking your paycheck (which has already been taxed) and going to another country where they require you to give up 35% of it before you’re able to use it?

We should probably stay away from using the terms “right” and “wrong” here, since that tends to involve plays on morality. Substitute those terms with “legal” and “illegal” makes the discussion much clearer. Are any multinationals like Apple doing something illegal by keeping foreign-earned profits overseas to avoid paying 35% in taxes? No.
