I agree. Allow mass mailers and return envelopes to throw a QR code next to the address to allow incredibly easy sorting at their facilities.

Not necessarily. Apple originally introduced the current Apple TV as the iTV in their keynote. ITV had some harsh words on that, Apple backtracked and said that iTV was an internal development codename, and named it the Apple TV when it was finally released.
I would not be surprised if Apple avoids that this time around.

Apple rarely releases flops these days and their fanbase is so intense there are many who would buy it just because Apple made it (not that there is anything wrong with that. Let the people buy what they want)

At least Photoshop doesn’t use the interface that Maya does. I’ve never seen a UI with as large a learning curve as Maya.

Google didn’t create the iOS app, it simply provided the maps it uses.
That was a little simplistic. They provide far more than just maps (StreetView, Places, etc. etc.). You get the idea.

The app on iOS is not Google Maps; it’s iOS Maps powered by Google Maps. It sounds like Apple plans to replace Google’s map database with its own or the OpenStreetMap foundation’s database (like it did iPhoto). Google didn’t create the iOS app, it simply provided the maps it uses.
Most likely the app will be exactly the same, but with different map sources. That’s the unfortunate part as no other service really matches Google at this point.

It’s like any new product — it’s the hot new thing and people want to use it to see what it’s all about. In the case of Open Graph apps, it was all about piquing the interest of the masses. Seeing a bunch of sensationalist headlines pop up in their feed drew people in, curious to see what was going on. Now, the evolutionary cycle is kicking in and the weak will die and the strong will survive.
As with any product, make a good one and keep your customers. Make a shitty one, and never see a dime.

Unless I am very much mistaken, they changed the license to allow it to be commercially used with CS5. I know there was a mad buying rush with the students in the design program at my school when CS5 came out because of it.

When I said protect, I meant more along the lines of how the RIAA and MPAA are currently protecting their copyrighted material — in the courtrooms. I cannot recall ever hearing about Adobe taking a student or a family to court over pirating Creative Suite. They may go after those who try to profit from their pirated software, but that is a whole different game entirely.
Adobe’s DRM was broken years ago, as Groupers said, and they have never attempted to fix it, advance it, or replace it. Adobe would rather you purchase it, sure; that’s why they still have DRM in place. But they don’t fret over a dad pirating it to edit family photos or a 13 year old pirating it to learn how to use it.
As a web developer, I owe my career to Adobe being more forgiving than other companies. I’ve purchased the Master Suite from them. I’ll have another legal copy on the machine I get a week from today at my new job, and I will upgrade occasionally, too.
Adobe runs things exactly as they should for their business model — try and get everyone to purchase it, but don’t worry if the teens and poorer families steal it. Adobe wouldn’t get money from those people regardless. Instead, they keep their customer base continually fresh.

Exactly. It’s the approach Apple tried taking in the 90’s: put a Mac in every class room and in the future, all those students who grew up with Macs will want to continue working with them. It didn’t quite pan out that way (make no mistake, it definitely helped. Just not the way Apple had hoped it would), but Adobe has a near monopoly on the design software industry so they don’t have to worry as much about it not panning out.

I paid $300 for the CS5.5 Master Suite with my student discount last August. There are no commercial restrictions on it anymore either, so you can use that for years and years if you so choose. It’s definitely worth it.

Adobe’s CEO said as much in an interview (with Engadget, I think) back like 5 years ago. At the rate most companies go through CEOs, I doubt he is still in charge, but he did say it.

While Adobe doesn’t outright give its software away, it has never really protected it either. Its leadership believes the pirates of today are their customers of tomorrow. They’re smart and correct. If someone wants to jump through the hoops of stealing the software, Adobe lets them. It makes its money from the people who actually need the software and looks forward to making it from the people who pirate it and have it become more than just a hobby.
