Which includes both a manufacturer markup and a carrier markup. Hefty ones at that. Google has a history of absorbing the carrier markup to get their phones in people’s hands. This sets a precedent against that.

Not really. They charge cable companies $6 per subscriber, but if we moved to an ala carte model ESPN would almost certainly charge actual subscribers more. You pay for some channels you want and some you don’t. It averages out across channels and subscribers.
