Samsung calls HDMI CEC “Anynet+” Every manufacturer calls it something else.

HDMI signal is copy protected. You can’t record it. You’d need to support a CableCARD with messy install, and cable companies could raise hell if MS turned Xbox into a Tivo style DVR. Suddenly, ESPN, HBO GO and other partners won’t work with you. Same political BS.
If Apple wants to spend some of it’s $137 Billion to break the cable companies, more power to ‘em. I’ll believe it, when I see it.

No. Steve Jobs “cracked” quote was concerning TV user interface:
I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use,’ he told me. ‘It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud.’ No longer would users have to fiddle with complex remotes for DVD players and cable channels. ‘It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.
Xbox ONE does all that.
There is a VERY simple reason why no one has broken the cable companies. The cable companies PAY content providers the MOST money. So content providers are slaves to their sugar daddy. Unless MS or Apple are willing to pay MORE money, movie/tv studios don’t give a sh*t what MS/Apple or you want.

The Xbox ONE uses HDMI CEC to control all devices through HDMI. This will work great IF your TV and cable box etc supports HDMI CEC. IR might be used for non CEC devices, but IR setup would be tough for non-tech people.
I built my own Windows Media Center computer and it is great, BUT I do not think MS is going in this direction. Why? Repeat after me: CABLE COMPANIES ARE LIKE THE MAFIA. If MS tries to do anything to try and replace cable company boxes or DVRs, cable companies will go ape sh*t. They make money off each “rented” cable box/DVR.
You won’t get any content deals or cooperation if you cross the cable companies.

The problem is that it does nothing to actually “crack” TV, because the TV is still completely separate from the console, it’s just a pass through pipe.
What the hell does your statement even mean? What feature does the Xbox ONE lack?
You TELL the TV what you want to watch and it finds content from ANY source. Live TV, Netflix, Video on Demand, etc.
How exactly can Apple can make watching TV any easier, or are you just a venting fanboy?
Steve Jobs put one over on the music industry, but cable companies will not crack.

Let’s see what Apple has up their sleeve at end of year. If Apple can’t come up with something better than the current Apple TV this year then when will they? Rumors of Apple Television have been around for years.

No used game market
MS never said that. You can pretty much bet that game publishers, Sony and MS will have same deal regarding used games.
Also personally I feel that in a year from now building a Steambox will be more cost effective for the same performance.
PC gamers have been saying this since 2001. 100 million Xbox consoles later…

As long as price and games are good, it should sell. Having two virtual machines in the Xbox ONE is a ballsy move. The instant switching was amazing.
By the way, Dave Cutler who helped designed Hypervisor setup is a genius.

No. Cable companies are ignoring CableCARD. Cable companies want CableCARD to fail and they make it as painful as possible to install.
You can’t get streaming content deals with ESPN or HBO without playing by cable company rules. Cable companies pay the most for content, so it’s their game and their rules…for now.

Nilay should blame cable and media companies not Microsoft. Cable companies won’t let you take over all their content and subscribers without a fight. You HAVE to partner with them. BUT since this machine supports apps like HBO Go, Netflix, Hulu and iptv. You can use this box to cut the cord eventually. Xbox One will be a Trojan horse that stabs cable companies in the back.

Nice post. Windows Phone has become Nokia Phone. As long as Nokia keeps coming out with quality phones in all price ranges, WP market share should increase. Microsoft could release a Surface phone to improve sales, but that could hurt Nokia’s recovery.
Of course, Apple could release a low cost iPhone that could boost their sales overseas. In other words, who the hell knows what will happen in next 12 months.

Android fans can’t brag about dominating the market without taking responsibility for the millions of “problem children”. Because those millions of people burned by bad/cheap Android phones will look to Apple and WP later.
WP user satisfaction rated higher than Android.

I’ve worked in software dev before, so I’ve been on other side of fence. Ballmer put Windows Phone team in multiple bad situations, and they still came up with damn good software. Users, rightly, don’t give a crap about excuses. So you’ll see snarky comments and posts. Hey, I tell the truth. If it comes off as excuses, so be it.

I crack up when I read user reviews of Windows Phones on carrier websites. “I had an Android phone that kept rebooting. My new Windows Phone doesn’t” “This phone is easier to use than my old Android” blah blah, etc.

With very limited time (for reasons I explained), a Dev team has to pick and choose what features to put in. Look at Feature Suggestion page that Microsoft has for WP. I’m sure rotation lock and slider are there, but it ain’t at top of list that’s for sure.

You’re missing the great part of Metro apps, you can install as many as you want without junking up your system with Google toolbars, plugins, registry/DLL disasters, startup crap or spyware. All with easy uninstall.
