What movement? This is quite literally the first time I’ve heard of it.
Oh wait, sensationalism. Never mind. :)

What features are missing from Skype?
Its a platform independent, market leader in instant messaging and VOIP calls with video. It doesn’t actually go through the SMS system (neither does Google or Apple’s services) but it works just as well.

How did I miss the point?
Multi-platform protocol for messaging, VOIP and video calls that is free or very cheap.

oh, and – IP addresses? Okay – let pretend for a moment that attackers use Skype to fish for IP addresses. Lets ignore the web server logs, packet sniffers, traceroutes, lookup tables etc. etc.
Pro Tip: The IP of anything on the internet can be found in a few minutes with free software, not just skype. :)

All I heard there was complete twaddle. You do realise Skype has push, right?

Oh if only there was an app that connected every possible device together, was free to use as an SMS service and guaranteed future support for both business and home users.
I can’t quite remember the name, its on the tip of my tongue. It Rhymes with Pipe but starts with an ‘S’.

UEFI doesn’t really seperate anything, to be honest. Macintoshes have been using EFI since the very first Intel Macs circa 2006 and Industrial servers have been using EFI for a very long time. Modern motherboards will look like its using a BIOS, but anything Intel you buy these days, be it a pre made machine or an OEM motherboard, will be using EFI.

And I was originally replying to Unforgiven2 who stated that startup was fastly improved in Windows 8 when in reality it isn’t.
Also, if you don’t care, why do you keep replying ;)

Not at all. I much proffer the heavier and chunkier feel of the 920. In Matte black it looks and feels like a top shelf product.

Large, very complex applications can generate a lot of errors over time. Development work on my MSc that forced a re-install of the operating system prooved that much to me (because Java |: ).
Also – install location is an option on Windows with Program Files being the default location, and you can just click next, as you say. On a Mac, the Primary Disk is automatically selected and you can just click next as well. I also never said you HAVE to choose an install location – stop pulling an argument out of thin-air.

I disabled fast start-up on my gaming rig with Win8 Pro in a separate partition and I saw no difference in startup times with Windows 7.
I also have a “PC designed for Windows 8” (hint, they’re no different to any other computer) – a Lenovo S300. My senior at work also has an S300, but it was given to him as a Work computer and Windows 7 was pre-installed instead of 8. When fast start-up was disabled in Win8, I didn’t see any difference between an out of the box S300 with Win8 and his fresh install of Windows 7 Professional.
You need to remember that Microsoft actually stated in plain English that, without the new UI, Windows 8 is just a MINOR update to Windows 7 and nothing underneath has been given any speed boost. Only cosmetic tweaks in Explorer as well as fast start-up have been applied outside of the new Windows RunTime APIs (WinRT).

What is crap is that you have no idea that it is actually true.
It is called fast startup and it only shuts down parts of the operating system whilst hibernating the rest. Using that command will perform a full shutdown that will actually unload the kernel (which is required for an actual shutdown by definition).
You can tell if your computer has fast start-up enabled by looking at the system up-time in the CPU view of the Performance tab in Task Manager.
I shutdown this computer well over a week ago – yet it says its been up for nearly 12 days.
If I was to perform a proper shutdown or restart the computer (both of which unload the kernel), that counter would be reset.

However, if you’re trying to reinstall or fox a corrupt installation it can be horrible to identify and remove artefacts
“this exe has encountered an error with error code 57205582 and needs to close.”
What a lovely plethora of information, Windows! I’ll be sure to search the internet and look at error logs for the next three hours to find the issue!
Self contained applications on OSX just need deleting and re-downloading. Installed applications can just be re-installed. The same applies to Windows.
The install process on OS X is also quite annoying.
Windows: “Next. Choose Install Location. Next. Ok”
OSX: “Choose Hard Disk. Install. Validating. Ok.”
Why does the app have to be draged to a location? Shouldn’t it know where to go?
Self contained applications on OSX can go anywhere – this is why they don’t know “where to go”. The Application’s folder is just there to keep everything organised, but I’ve ran applications from the desktop, from external disks, from networked SMB disks etc.

How to uninstall an application on OSX: Put it in the trash. Empty the Trash. APP files on OSX are actually folders with all the program files inside them, so all you need to do is delete it.
If its a very large application that drops some files into system directories, like Photoshop, it’ll come with its own uninstaller as required.
The installer on Windows is also not pure genius. All it does is expand some compressed files into the Program Files directory and adds some settings into the registry. Its just the old DOS way of installing programs but automated. OSX’s Installer and Repositories on Linux do exactly the same thing.

The best benchmark you could ever do on Win 8 is that: Shut Down the PC, Open it, count to 10 and see if the OS you ready for you.
Before you do that, open the command prompt and type “shutdown /s /t 0”
This will actually shutdown the operating system rather than hibernate certain parts of it whilst shutting down the rest.
Only then you will actually get the proper startup time, which is no different to Windows 7. :)
Also, any benchmark utility for Windows 7 will work on Windows 8.

I believe so.
The S-Pen that comes included with the Galaxy Note I got a few days ago just made my hand cramp. Its absolutely horrid to use IMHO.
Sadly, my Intuos 4 stylus didn’t work, but I got a better stylus for my Galaxy Note on Amazon and was able to sketch very comfortably in Sketchbook Pro.

As predicted, a better stylus makes almost all the problems with the Note disappear. Pressure curve still isn’t as good as my Intuos 4, but its usable.
