I think Java, the language, is open. You could fork Java as a language with no repercussions.
The Java VMs are closed source. You pay a licensing fee if you want to use them.

But let’s be honest here.
If you wrote this, you wouldn’t be benefiting from this anyway. It would literally make you zero difference. Sun/Oracle is reaping all the benefit of their coders.
As a coder, you’d get paid like you do any job, but you wouldn’t collect royalties.

I guess I should also add, I did upgrade the amount of storage the phone had. 8GB is just too little room for a modern smartphone.

I really like my DVP.
Solid phone, feels good in the hand. Its a thick phone, and the screen could be better, but it isn’t /bad/, just Pentile. And I don’t wear skinny jeans, so I’m fine with thick phones.
Overall, DEFINITELY worth the money I paid. Probably more.
