All the consoles have plenty of DRM. That’s the entire point of consoles from their manufacturer’s perspective. Lock the system down as much as possible so that people need to continually pay you money for anything they wish to use it for.
The question is what are the downsides of the DRM and is a specific function of the DRM too much? I and many others believe that 24 hour checkins, which would have been required for any game, is too much.

They’d be better off adding/having just put an active digitizer on in it… Surface Pro is too expensive for a lot of people’s needs, but writing by hand is very important for learning.

It’s not. Basically every app with something worth sharing has a button that looks like a rectangle with an arrow coming out of it. Press it and you get a bunch of options about where to send it. Email, SMS/MMS/iMessage, Facebook, Twitter, email, etc.

Some guy who follows all the “rules” and ends up with a stolen prototype is pretty different from Gizmodo knowingly purchasing a stolen prototype with the intention of leaking Apple’s secrets to as many people as possible.

We already know it’s less capable from a technical perspective, but close enough so whatever. His point was that it’s a first impression and since they didn’t focus on gaming, it makes people believe that gaming is not the main focus. It’s not that hard to understand. If gaming is the focus, the announcement was a failure, as it has given people the wrong idea about the console.
If I ask you to tell me about yourself quickly and all you say that you like anime, I start to believe that anime is very important to you and takes up a large amount of your time. I expect you to know about all sorts of different shows, who creates them, etc. I don’t expect you to actually spend 99% of your free time carving wood and that you only watch a single anime show that’s on TV saturday mornings.

Live has had issues with stability. Sure it wasn’t hacked and taken down for months, but people did have issues connecting for a fairly long period of time. They gave out some arcade game because of it. So Christmas 2014, the servers overload again from all the new Xboxs being setup and they’re just bricks that do nothing for awhile…

What exactly is it about the Xbox One that makes you want it? Have they actually announced anything good and noteworthy about it?
1. There’s no reason to worry about your credit card number… You aren’t responsible for unauthorized charges on it.
2. The safest service is probably the one that had issues and went through a lot of work to fix them.

Always a possibility, but they won’t. Do you know how much money MS spent to enter the console market?

Oh and I bought and run Windows 8 on my desktop (and think it’s fine), have a Windows Phone (but it’s not my main smart phone) and will be buying a Surface Pro sometime soon. My default search engine on all my computers is also set to Bing (although really just because of Bing Rewards).

I completely agree with Strand0410.
What is it that upsets you about this move?
I don’t care about used games, in fact I think we would be better off without them. I don’t care about the Kinect requirement. However, I’m against DRM that goes too far, specifically the online requirement. I didn’t buy Sim City because of this (and I love Sim games) and I won’t buy the One. I have a good internet connection at home, but there will always be times when I don’t for whatever reason. There’s no good reason why one should be required and I won’t support any companies push into requiring one.
So as long as it requires online checkins, I won’t be buying one. At this point, it’s an especially easy decision, since they haven’t shown anything all that interesting. The sports games and CoD will continue to be available on every platform. I couldn’t care less about the TV features and already have a million different ways to watch Netflix.
Are you a current Xbox owner?
Yes, I own both an Xbox 360 and original Xbox. I also have a gaming PC, PS3, PS2, Vita, PSP, Gamecube, N64, and Dreamcast. I also have 2 Tivos and 2 Google TV Blu Ray players.
Is the Xbox One something you would like to own (‘always on’ elements excepted)?
At this point, I see nothing worth spending money on, but I’m sure they’ll have some interesting exclusives at some point and then I would probably be tempted to buy it.

The headline of this article is blatantly made up crap to generate clicks… I thought The Verge was supposed to be above this… Apple is not the subject of this article, in fact they barely have any connection to this news at all. They should not be mentioned in the headline.

Uhh, no they’re not. Is it useful to have an internet connection on it? Sure, but it’s in no way required and has plenty of use without one. My iPad can play music, podcasts, audiobooks, movies, etc. It has all sorts of games and other apps that can be used without an internet connection. It can be used to read newspapers and magazines offline.
99% of the reason why I even have an iPad is for use on airplanes where I do not usually have access to the internet.

Uhh this isn’t really new. Mark Cuban’s Magnolia Pictures has been doing this for years. However, they’ve had trouble getting any theaters that they don’t own (Landmark Theatres is owned by Cuban) to carry their films because of this.
