I think what some here are forgetting, is that if we ALL had cars that drove autonomously, whether we owned them or not, there would be no traffic (or at least significantly less). Autonomous cars would be able to know what other cars are doing, and such, could drive faster, and closer, without significantly higher probability of crashing (significantly less probability of a human crashing today, when the software is finished/polished). They could merge practically without slowing down (or they would prepare for it a mile head instead of waiting until the last possible second to merge like a human often does).
Think about your 30 minute commute taking 10, or your 1:30 minute commute taking 30. Actually it would be even faster because autonomous cars can drive faster, so its not just about lack of traffic, imagine if all speed limits were doubled or more, depending on road conditions.
I don’t think i would like being forced to use autonomous driving, but in the end, I believe it will be better for everyone. Especially safer.
