Windows 8: Dont listen to people complaining about the loss of the start menu. The new interface provides all of the same functionality plus some. It just takes some getting used to. After some practice you can be faster with metro than with the old start menu.
Windows Phone 8: Its a good OS. I didn’t really get that much time to spend with it because my Nokia lumia 920 had issues with other carriers (even unlocked they don’t work properly).

Nokia wants all the free advertisement that comes with being carrier exclusive. Windows phone is not a popular platform, as such, carriers would be promoting more popular phones like the galaxy S4 and iphone 5 over something like a lumia.
By making a phone carrier exclusive, that carrier has to put in marketing effort to sell it. If nokia gave lumias to every carrier, the carriers would just toss them aside in order to sell the hotter phones.

Unless games are coded to take advantage of that extra 50% there isnt going to be much difference in performance graphics.
The PS3 was arguably a more powerful system, but in many instances, the xbox 360 out performed it in both graphics and game performance.
The reason for this is because of a lack of proper coding.
Hopefully now that both systems are using x86 architecture, we will be seeing much better performance in games.

looks like any DVR or HDTV device. Except now you can throw out all those extra devices and just have the xbox under your TV. Id say thats an improvement and saving money.

Regardless if HTC produces a surface phone for microsoft, it wont save the company. Windows phone has such a small market share and mindshare that it wont make much of a difference. If HTC wants to survive, they need to start advertising like samsung does.
Since the GS4 came out ive seen so many humorous commercials bashing iPhone. I have seen no advertisements at all for the HTC one.
HTC needs to step up their marketing.

Reddit and google + can be used in the exact same way. The only difference is that G+ allows you select who you want to see your post.
In addition. Google + is more content rich that reddit. My biggest gripe with reddit is that you have to be redirected to another page to view a post, comment etc….

Not everyone has MMS though. So if you need to send picture or video messages they may or may not get it. Or it may end up costing them money.
Telus charges me $.50 per MMS sent. So i have to use things like whatsapp

pretty sure you cant expect anything “google” on windows phone. Google made it clear at I/O that they “Struggle with people like Microsoft”
It appears someone has a grudge.

less apps is not really a problem on any platform. Its a lack of popular apps which are the problem. When companies like google or facebook dont even want to develop for the platform, you are in trouble.
In the case of windows 8, its less of an issue though because you get more functionality by using the websites over the apps anyways.

I have an RT, and personally i think its the most cumbersome tablet ive ever held. The pro would only be worse in that respect.
The 16:9 ratio is horrible for one handed use especially when holding it in landscape..
Its still an awesome tablet, but i would prefer a 7-8 inch version.

I kind of wish more phone manufacturers would take a similar stance as the paranoid android ROM.
basically all of the navigation buttons are hidden. To bring them up, you swipe from the buttom of the screen. This allows the user to use the entire screen for viewing, it removes any accidental presses of the buttons (because they are software buttons and they are hidden).
The only problem with it is that when you need to press the back button multiple times, you have to swipe up each time. In windows phone pressing back a lot is necessary because there is no other way to close a task. Adding a way to close opened applications via the multitasking screen would be a solution to this issue.

Build quality.
I dont know if you have heard the saying but: “a macbook makes the best windows computer”.
I bought a macbook to run windows in bootcamp. I would gladly pay the extra money to get something made out of premium materials as opposed to the cheap quality plastic that windows OEM partners love to use.
I spent 1600 on an MSI gaming laptop, one week later the hinge on some of the keys broke and they fell off (i didnt even break it, it just literally fell off).
My macbook pro has been violently abused and crushed by textbooks and theres not a scratch on it. Glossy screen gets really dirty though.
I guess i like apple design, but not the software.

By making BBM cross platform, they are increasing the user base of BBM which in turn will give blackberry BBM users a better experience (now they can have all of their contacts on BBM as opposed to just the few friends that actually have a blackberry).
Blackberry really needs to differentiate the Blackberry version though. By making it free on android and iOS, and planning on implementing all of the same features, they are essentially shooting themselves in the foot as it gives less reason to buy a blackberry.

was it really necessary to make it that thick? You can definitely squeeze a fan in a much thinner space than that.

I just want them to bring the styling of their IOS apps over to android. It seems as though more effort goes into the look and feel of the iOS counterparts than the android ones…. Just look at the gmail apps on both platforms.
