From the looks of it, they have a 2 year display cycle.. (except for iPhone 2g, 3g, 3gs), so my wild guess would be that they’ll come up with a whole new resolution and screen size which will disrupt their super easy development for a single screen size, but it will bring a big refresh to the iphone line.

I assure you I’m not a great developer, but I do test apps on all resolutions.

Unless you are developing a game.. then, things can get real ugly with some devices not running your game at all, depending on what libraries / game engines you use.

“It runs everywhere more or less.” Out of curiosity, what doesn’t usually work for you?
But I’m not going to argue, the more you test the app, the better, however with the current sdk, emulators and on the fly res switching in the graphical layout designer, things got a lot easier (from my experience). Also, battery life usually comes down to how efficient your code is.

I’ve got a GNex and it’s a really really great phone, and future-proof (well, more like 2-years-proof) since it has a 720p screen and a dual core processor. When the next Nexus comes out with a new version of Android, the Galaxy Nexus is sure to recieve it also, so I don’t think it’s worth it to wait for a year just to get slightly better specs.
Unless you want a better camera on your phone, cause the Galaxy Nexus camera sucks cherries/lemons/circular objects.

I like how everyone is an Android development expert around here.
I’ve been developing for the platform for 4 years, and for the past 2 it’s been my day job. What I see in that chart is what jonor said – flexibility. Whenever a coworker wants to see what I’m working on, (given he has an Android) I just take his phone, and deploy the latest build on it – and “it just works”. All screen sizes, resolutions, operating system versions (usually 2.1+, there aren’t a lot of 1.6s around), same functionality, no problem. No stretched buttons/graphics, no mangled layouts, unless I specifically screwed something up.
The sdk offers excellent tools for both creating unique layouts, and making those layouts work on all screen sizes. If you see an app that can’t handle different screen sizes, then the developer either stopped supporting it early on, or he just didn’t do a good job.

I’ve got a W520 right now.. and it’s the best laptop keyboard I’ve used, better than the MB Pro chiclet keyboard I’m using at work. Sad to see the non-chiclets go.. hopefully they’ve chosen the new one’s because they’re better than the non-chiclets, and not because it’s “trendy” or whatever.
