From what I know they don’t share API’s because they want you locked in. It’s basic business to try and halt your competition. If you were to make it though, I’d suggest using something like Amazon or Google cloud services so you have the scalability where you pay for what you use. Ads could offset any infrastructure cost as the more the app is used, the more you earn. Or you could have a paid app and pay for the services that way. However any business needs a injection as the start, where Kickstarter could help.
So I hope you do make one! Just make sure you have a great design! :)

hehe, no. I was more surprised that in almost no articles there isnt any mention of the app, which has been out for like months now, even though they are pretty much exactly the same, and has the same functionality. For me, the new Hangouts application for Chrome is the same experience as I’ve always had (for my usage of it).

If you use Chrome, it always runs in the background. So an “app” for Chrome can be just like a desktop application. Again I believe this is about getting people to use Google products. (Which typically can be better than the competition, at least from my perspective, hehe)

I guess you can think of the whole Google system is getting tied together. If you have one product, you have them all (even if you don’t use them). And what Google is trying to do is force people to use Google+, well maybe force is the wrong way. But there is incentives to use Google+ instead of the competition *cough*facebook*cough*

You are quite right. However what Google is trying, is to get everyone to use Google Plus products, thus they tie everything together. It’s kind of like, even if WhatsApp can use your existing phonebook, the other party is still depended upon having the app installed. So you can say that having a google plus account is like having the app installed.

Yes, you are correct. My point was simply that any operating system (even WinXP) can become unbelievably hard to crack if certain precautions are taken. Removing modules that are not needed is a big step, as you remove vulnerabilities in those services. A big bad wolf is actually sharing between computers inside a LAN, removing that is a big big step :)

There is a reason it’s called Security through Obscurity. Also some of the hardest operating systems to crack is Windows XP hardened (disabeling services that normally run in the background and such, removing all networking protocols except those needed…).

Am I the only one that think Bable looks exactly like Google Chat for Chrome?

Install it on Windows and it’s pretty much the leaked image, minus the emoji :)

Like you said, Apple is in a unique position. The problem is that they can’t get enough parts to launch world-wide at once. Apple just buys up all the parts every vendor has (up to a certain limit ofcourse), then it’s just the assembly left which can delay devices.

I do think that’s a contributing factor, but I don’t think it’s only that. It’s probably also that they ain’t the best of friends (look at the bing vs google issue)
