Finally a good commercial for the Surface. Shows the benefits of the device over the iPad. Its hard to compete in the media with Apple when the tech press fawns over everything Apple does, but relentlessly criticizes Microsoft.
Microsoft has some good marketing for Outlook.com and Bing, too. I see the commercials everytime I go to the movies.
I don’t use Office much on my Surface, but its great to have for the moments when I need to open a file to do a quick edit. I went to see a movie yesterday, and during the pre-show there were two excellent Microsoft ads – the Windows phone fight ad, and an ad for Outlook.com. Microsoft should hype the presence of Office on Surface too. Its a big selling point over the iPad. By the way, the arrogant pricks at Apple refuse to release an iTunes for Metro, so Microsoft should never release Office for iOS.
Why would Microsoft waste development resources on IE for the Mac, when Mac users already have Safari, Chrome, Firefox and a host of niche browsers. If a developer wants to test his site on IE 10, he can run Windows 8 in a VM or boot camp partition.
I really, really like Windows 8. I have it on Surface and several laptops, but I am going to give Ubuntu 13.04 a try and see what I think. The only thing holding me back from using Linux for actual work (as opposed to playing around) is the lack of Microsoft Exchange support. How can anyone use business email on a Linux computer?
I mostly use the touch keyboard with my Surface RT. Never thought a touch interface would be all that cool, but the more I use it, the more I like it. For the times when I do want a physical keyboard, I bought the Microsoft Wedge keyboard. It is very light, therefore easy to transport in a computer bag, and connect via Bluetooth.
Carrier is AT&T, so no surprise that they are kind of useless. According to them, it is BlackBerry’s problem, not theirs. I said that the alerts are being transmitted on your network, cant you just turn them off? The response was that BlackBerry was sending them on a “different network” and AT&T had no control over it. No joke. That is what passes for technical support at AT&T.
Doesn’t work. There is something called “Cell Broadcast” but when I switch it off, an alert pops up that says “failed to save CBS setting.” So no voila, I’m afraid. Really, really bad OS design.
I think Windows 8 is the best OS I’ve ever used. Better than OS X, Ubuntu, and Solaris. Even better than BeOS R5. Man, I loved BeOS. But I think Windows 8 is amazing.
